It is probably unique that a high alpine mountain valley is reachable to an altitude of 3,108 meters above sea level! What began with the construction of a high mountain road is now a multi-award winning flagship model and lighthouse project in Europe.

Swiss Tracs, allow wheelchair users to visit the many high alpine huts of the valley. The Kaunertal glacier have also steadily expanded their offer so that guests can even visit the viewing platform with a triple view at a barrier height of 3,108 m. Low-floor buses for groups (wheelchair users and people with reduced mobility) are available on request. The Kaunergrat Natural Park has made the "Piller Moor" wheelchair accessible with wooden bridges and the terrace of the Falkaunsalm has already been equipped with a wide ramp. All public facilities such as the tourist office, the ski school, the indoor swimming pool or the Kaunergrat Nature Park, all the shops and many restaurants in the valley are absolutely barrier-free.

Accessible summer holidays
It all started when access to the Kaunertal glacier was made possible in the 1970s and the wheelchair-accessible glacier restaurant opened. Public facilities such as the tourism office and indoor pool, but also all shops and many bars and restaurants in Kaunertal are fully accessible. Even Kaltenbrunn pilgrimage church is accessible. Kaunergrat nature park with its accessible Naturparkhaus at the “Gachen Blick” viewing site was built in 2007 and hence since made an important contribution to the tourism offer. The architecturally fascinating building is an ideal starting point for the nature park region and has a beautiful sun terrace - it also home to the exhibition ”3,000 m vertical” – a multimedia interactive show which will open up an entirely new way of looking at plants, animals and people in the nature park.
